Is it possible to operate MinimStreamer remotely, through Synology Quickconnect or DDNS? I simply want to set the
stream record properties?
Thanks for any help in this area.
There is no support in MinimServer for this but it might be possible to set up other software to provide a reverse proxy accessible from the internet that can forward HTTP requests for MinimServer configuration web pages across your local network to MinimServer.

I have no experience of doing this and I haven't tried any experiments because I don't want to open my local network to be accessible from the internet. Perhaps someone reading this thread will be able to make a suggestion.
You haven't said what you want to connect from, but assuming it's a phone that you can install apps onto tailscale is probably your best bet. Synology install instructions here.

It's a VPN so you'll need to establish the VPN connection to your Synology first (open the tailscale app on the mobile) then connect to your MinimServer configuration page and once you've made the changes shut the tailscale app down, otherwise all your traffic will be going via the Synology.

Tailscale doesn't require you to open any ports so is more secure.

I tried once to access minimserver through a VPN, with tunnelblick as a client on my Mac.

That did not work.

Did you try and access the MinimServer web page as the OP requested or were you trying to discover the server over UPnP as I don't think broadcasts work over VPNs. There may be a way of doing it, but I use BubbleUPnP and BubbleUPnP Server, through tailscale not direct to my LAN.

You are right, I was trying to access to the server, through the icon, which would stay grey. The server web page did work.
Thanks for all the ideas so far. Sorry for delay in replying .Yes, I want to be able to connect back to the Synology NAS from an Android phone, but failing that an iPad Pro. I want to overcome At least in part, the 24-hour clock limitation, in order to remotely start and end a recording on MinimStreamer, ie setting the stream.record property.

I have some technical software background and would run with any network secure solution , even if it was perhaps inelegant. I have regularly used Synology apps (which sign-in securely via Quickconnect) to upload and download files to the NAS. Would it be possible to (remotely) edit a MinimStreamer profile file on the NAS via Synology Office , or some such approach?

All ideas / experience gratefully received.
I'm afraid I don't know enough about Synology or Synology Office to know if it's even feasible to edit such a configuration file, but my guess would be that it's not, but even if you could you'll still need some way to restart MinimServer for the profile to take affect.

Tailscale looks promising. The package installed ok on my Synology DS214play but won’t allow a logon. The intel architecture of this NAS is probably source of problem, despite there being an apparently suitable stable installation package. Will try to get a resolution from Tailscale.
In mean time will try to set up a simple Linux-based server next week, accessing it with Tailscale.

That's not good. There's a workaround on the tailscale forum, which is essentially to start it manually:
Code:
sudo tailscale up
