Hey the Minim community,
I'm having a problem and can't find the fix without some helps
i have compilation CD box with multiples artistes that I'd like to be displayed as single artist entry when browsing by albums, but in the same way, I want them to be displayed when browsing the 2nd artists albums :
Exemple :
Stephen Kovacevich The complete Philips Reocrdings (25cds) :
The 24 first Cd only have on artist : Stephen Kovacevich
The 25th is played by Stephen Kovacevich & Martha Argerich
This make a double entry in my all album view. I use trackartist for multiples artist entry (one for Kovacevich, one for Argerich) and leave AlbumArtist blank. This way, the 25th CD is displayed in both Kovacevich & Argerich entry.
Is there a method where this Box set could be displayed as one entry when browsing my all classical albums list,
but will be shown in both Kovacevich and Argerich Albums list when selecting one specific artist ?
Thanks !
You could list Stephen Kovacevich as the album artist, since he is the principal artist for the entire set, or you could enter the album artist as “Various Aritsts.” [/u]
Hi Anton, Thanks.
If I set Various Artists in Albumartist, the CD box will not be displayed in both pianist album list, and if I set Albumartist with Kovacevich, the cd will not be displayed in Argerich album list. That's why I'm leaving that entry blank, and set Trackartist instead that make the CD visible in both Artist album list when selecting on of them
ps : I'm using Kazoo CP
I was thinking you would browse by album artist to see full sets, and browse by the track artist field to view by either. It is typical to list the principal artist for an album or set of albums in the album artist field, and multiple additional artists in the track artist field. That way you can browse by either album artist to see the full set, or track artist to see all the works in which a particular artist is featured.
oh i see Anton, the solution maybe just to browse my music in another way. Where was my mind...
Thanks for that effortless solution
So i was thinking; when I'm into an albumArtist view list, i only see where this artist has been tagged as albumartist I'm right ? what about adding in that view albums where this artist also appear on track artist ? does it make sense to you ? that way, I can still browse my collection by artist (instead of all artists), faster, and get all Cds where that artist has played.
this should be done by editing the tag options properties no ?
The AlbumArtist index shows only AlbumArtist tags. To view Artist tags, you need to use either the Artist index or the All Artists index.
The Artist index shows the AlbumArtist tag for the album if it has an AlbumArtist tag. if the Album doesn't have an AlbumArtist tag, the Artist index shows all the Artist tags for the album. If one of the Artist values is only tagged for certain tracks, selecting this artist will only show that artist's tracks, so selecting Argerich would show only CD 25.
The problem with this is that the album won't get merged in the albums list if CD 25 is in a different folder from the other CDs because there is no match between CD 25 and the other CDs for either the AlbumArtist tag or the Artist tags. For albums to be merged across folders, the album name must match and either the AlbumArtist tag must match or all the Artist tags must match.
You can get all the CDs merged into one album by putting them all in the same folder and not setting the AlbumArtist tag, just the Artist tags. In this case, only the album name must match. This should do what you want.
Dear Simon,
Thanks again for taking the time to clarify things
and sorry for my late reply.
i've merged all tracks in one folder, same album name, and only use now discnumber & discsubtitle to makes things clean on my box set. The 25Cd box is now completely merged in one entry, and the 25th Cd does appear in both Kovacevich & Argerich album list
I'm happy with that now
))
But I was wondering, when browsing by Albumartist, and selecting one of them ; is there any possibilities to tell the control point to display disc where the AlbumArtist is tagged as both Albumartist & trackartist ? that could make lot of sense for jazz music where sometime AlbumArtist (let's say Bobo Stenson), could be the leader on his Quartet (Albumartist), but only a trackartist in some Jan Garbarek records ?
Cheers, and thanks again for this amazing support
When you browse via AlbumArtist > Bobo Stenson, you are selecting only those files where the AlbumArtist tag is set to Bobo Stenson. Further browsing can narrow this selection further but cannot widen the selection to include files where the AlbumArtist tag is not set to Bobo Stenson.
You can see all files that have Bobo Stenson as a track artist by browsing from the top-level menu via All Artists > Bobo Stenson. Alternatively, if your control point supports UPnP Search, you could make a search request for Bobo Stenson.
