Not sure if this has been asked for but couldn't find any reference.
Would there be scope to add a Randomising track selection feature in MinimServer a la Asset, number of tracks returned being configurable?
It has been asked for but not by many users. I am considering this as a possible future enhancement to MinimServer. Some control points provide this but this is normally by random tracks over the whole library. If this feature were to be supported in MinimServer, I would hope to include support for random albums and groups and also allow selection of a subset of the library before randomising. Given this, I'm not sure why the number of tracks would be configurable.
Thanks Simon.
I was referring to what Asset UPnP does - it creates a dynamic selection of 10 random albums (a fixed number) in a container, and a configurable number of random tracks (up to 1000 I think), also in a container. It's not perfect because if you open the tracks container and select Play All it actually generate a new playlist rather than the one displayed, but that's a minor niggle. And it's across the whole library so there's no control at all. If there's a better way I'm all for it. I like the idea of a subset - say on genre or any other index - even more Smile
BTW I set mine to return 20 tracks, but I can imagine some people would like more, or less?

A jukebox feature that accommodates some of the Minimserver selection features would be a nice-to-have. For me though it's the absence of a "Recently added" view that is the one thing I wish for most. But Minimserver's many strengths still keep it up there as my server of choice.

Why does it matter if you get more than you need? If you get 100 (or 1000) and you only want 20, you can stop playing after the first 20.
Sort-of related thought: I have two albums that the artist never intended to have a particular running order--Apollo 18 by They Might Be Giants and Unfold by The Necks. They were designed to be played in a random track order.

It's easy enough in the control point to randomize the order, but I've found myself wondering if the most logical behavior by MinimServer would be that if the track numbers in an album are blank, then randomize when serving the album.

Again, not a big deal because it is easy enough to do in the control point, but it would save the hassle of discovering a day or two later when you go to play another album that random play is still on and the songs are playing out of order.
If track numbers are blank, the tracks are sorted and played in alphabetical order. I don't have any plans to change this.

Fair enough. Kazoo does tend to be a bit slow adding 1000 tracks though Wink
+1

I would really like to see such a randomizing feature!

Hi Simon,

I would also be very happy if you could implement this some day!
Thanks,

Rob.
