Full Version: Newbie question on tagging a multidisc album

Hello, I currently have the album A Multitude of Angels box set by Keith Jarrett which contains four separate discs each representing a different Italian live concert.
Disc 1- TEATRO COMUNALE, MODENA
Disc 2- TEATRO COMUNALE, FERRARA
Disc 3- TEATRO REGIO, TORINO
Disc 4- TEATRO CARLO FELICE, GENOVA

I'm wondering what is the optimal way to tag these files?

Each disc will be ripped into its own subfolder under the main album folder (which also contains the artwork)

As I understand so far I need the ALBUM tag to be A Multitude of Angels for every file and for the files in each disc folder a DISCSUBTITLE tag containing the values above.

Is it also necessary to have the DISCNUMBER and TOTALDISCS tag?

Thanks for any advice.
Your understanding is correct and you should also include DISCNUMBER. There is no need to add TOTALDISCS as MinimServer doesn't look at this tag.
thanks again Simon :-)
One thing I don't get is if MinimServer reads the DISCNUMBER field why is it necessary for there to be a value in the DISCSUBTITLE field to display as separate discs since if DISCNUMBER = 2 then you can derive Disc 2 and so on. Or is the idea that the DISCSUBTITLE field is the trigger to make MinimServer group tracks by discs, so that if you don't want it to do this you just leave DISCSUBTITLE blank.
There are two ways to trigger MinimServer showing an album as separate discs, One is the presence of a '(disc n)', '[disc n]' or ', disc n' suffix in the album title and the other is the presence of a DISCSUBTITLE tag. This is described in this section of the User guide.
