Hi, I am a new french Minimserver user and I am discovering all the possibilities offered by the software. I use Minimserver with the Naimapp controlpoint.
I am currently tagging again my 400 albums of classical music.
Everything is fine except one problem with multidisc albums.
When I select these albums in the Naimapp, I see first the list of all the items contained in the album in alphabetical order and then the discs indicated as follow : >>Disc 1, >>Disc 2, ...
I would like to remove the items from the presentation because they are redundant with the Disc.
The problems doen't appear with Kinsky : I only see >>Disc 1, >>Disc 2, ...
I tag my albums with mp3Tag as shown in this example :
Album name = "Jacqueline du Pré-Concerto Collection, Disc 1"
DISCNUMBER = 1
DISCTOTAL = 4
Album name = "Jacqueline du Pré-Concerto Collection, Disc 2"
DISCNUMBER = 2
DISCTOTAL = 4
Album name = "Jacqueline du Pré-Concerto Collection, Disc 3"
DISCNUMBER = 3
DISCTOTAL = 4
Album name = "Jacqueline du Pré-Concerto Collection, Disc 4"
DISCNUMBER = 4
DISCTOTAL = 4
The track number are also filled
The file format is FLAC
I hope you will find the solution to my problem, maybe I have missed an option in Minimserver options. I hope it's not a problem with Naimapp because this app offers interesting possibilities with Naim's streamers. Is there a link with what you mention on the web site :
"Note 4: The Naim app has a default sort order setting of A-Z. You need to disable this setting to prevent ordering problems with multidisc albums." ?
If yes, how can I disable the setting ?
Lionel
See
this post for information about how to disable A-Z. This should give you the same display as Kinsky.

Many thanks, the solution is to disable A-Z in the Naim app as you indicates
I have another little question about the tagging of multidisc albums :
In the following exemple, I have two different artists in the album 1 and 2
Album name = "Jacqueline du Pré-Concerto Collection, Disc 1"
Artist = "Berliner Philharmoniker"
Album name = "Jacqueline du Pré-Concerto Collection, Disc 1"
Artist = "Wiener Philharmoniker"
When I select the view "by Album" in the Naim App, I see two separated albums with the same cover : one album for each artist.
I would like to see one single album named "Jacqueline du Pré-Concerto Collection" with two discs inside : Disc 1 for "Berliner Philharmoniker"
and Disc 2 for "Wiener Philharmoniker".
Is there a way for that ?
Best Regards
Matching of album contents uses the album name and the artist or album artist. As a special case, if the files are in the same folder, only the album name is used.
You have two options to solve this problem:
1) Move all files for this album into the same folder so that they will match on album name only
2) Add an AlbumArtist tag to all tracks of this album. For example, the value could be 'Berliner Philharmoniker & Wiener Philharmoniker'.
Regarding the division of the album into discs, I am not clear how these tracks by different artists are divided between discs 1 and 2. In your post, you gave the album name as Disc 1 in both cases. Is this correct or are the Wiener Philharmoniker tracks on disc 2?
Sorry for my mistake !! I will try to explain again my problem.
In fact, the album names are :
Album name = "Jacqueline du Pré-Concerto Collection, Disc 1"
Artist = "Berliner Philharmoniker" for all tracks
All the files of this album are contained in the folder 1
Album name = "Jacqueline du Pré-Concerto Collection, Disc 2"
Artist = "Wiener Philharmoniker" for all tracks
All the files of this album are contained in the folder 2
Album name = "Jacqueline du Pré-Concerto Collection, Disc 3"
Tag Artist remains empty (in the case of Sonatas)
All the files of this album are contained in the folder 3
Album name = "Jacqueline du Pré-Concerto Collection, Disc 4"
Tag Artist remains empty (in the case of Sonatas)
All the files of this album are contained in the folder 4
At present, I see three albums in the album view instead of one :
One album containing the files from Folder 1 with "Berliner Philharmoniker" as artist
One album containing the files from Forlder 2 with "Wiener Philharmoniker" as artist
One album containing all the files from folders 3 and 4 with Tag Artist being empty
-> It seems that an other type of sorting is introduced by the software, by using the tag "artist". However, I have tried to remove all the sorting options in Minimwatch.
In the album view, I would like to see only one album named "Jacqueline du Pré-Concerto Collection",
and when I select this album, I would like to see 4 discs :
Disc 1 contaning all the files from album 1
Disc 2 contaning all the files from album 2
Disc 3 contaning all the files from album 3
Disc 4 contaning all the files from album 4
Is it possible ?
If you want to keep the files and folders as you have them currently, you should add an AlbumArtist tag to all tracks of this album. This tag can have any value. For example, it could be 'Berliner Philharmoniker & Wiener Philharmoniker' or 'Jacqueline du Pré' or 'Various artists'.
If you are willing to change the folder arrangement, you can combine all 4 discs into a single folder and leave the tags as they are currently.
Because the album name is different they are clearly going to be interpreted as different albums, so the album name needs to be the same for all. But the albumartists is an unneccessary diversion, if we assume for a moment that all tracks on all four discs have the same album artist is it possible to subdivide album by disc. i.e If has the DiscNo field or DiscSubTitle field set correctly can MinimServer be configured so that opening an album then shows four discs instead of immediately the list of songs ?

This isn't correct. The suffix ', Disc n' in an album name is interpreted specially by MinimServer and doesn't prevent album merging.
Quote:But the albumartists is an unneccessary diversion,
This is not an unnecessary diversion. The use of different artist names without an album artist is currently preventing the discs from being merged into a single album.

At present, opening a multidisc album always shows a list of songs with disc dividers. There might be an option to change this in the future.
Dear Simon
My problem is that the behavior is different from one multidisc album to another and I don't understand why.
Sometimes, with different artist names in an album, the multidisc albums are presented in a good way, and sometimes not. And I don't use the "AlbumArtist" tag in all cases.
The method used to tag the multidisc album is always the same. For example :
Album name = "Jacqueline du Pré-Concerto Collection, Disc 1"
Artist = "Berliner Philharmoniker" for all tracks
Discnumber = 1
Total Discnumber = 4
All the files of Disc 1 are in a folder named "Jacqueline du Pré-Concerto Collection, Disc 1"
Album name = "Jacqueline du Pré-Concerto Collection, Disc 2"
Artist = "Wiener Philharmoniker" for all tracks
Discnumber = 2
Total Discnumber = 4
All the files of Disc 2 are in a folder named "Jacqueline du Pré-Concerto Collection, Disc 2"
etc...
All the folders of Disc 1 to 4 are contained in a folder named "Jacqueline du Pré-Concerto Collection"
I would like to keep this organisation of folder.
Is there other tags influencing the presentation of multidisc albums ?
Is there a specific option to choose in Minimwatch ?
Many thanks for your help !!
