I guess this is really just a matter of personal preference but i was wondering how you guys were handling a song by an artist featuring another artist.

I've seen all sorts of tagging out there.
My current way of doing it (which is not great) is by including the "featuring" artist in the title of the song.
e g. Money for nothing (feat. Sting)
By doing it this way i can't really search a song by the "featuring" artist.

I'm not sure it's worth retagging my whole library but I was wondering if some of you were actually using multiple ARTIST tags for such songs?

Thanks for the thoughts.

I use the feat. in the title, but also include as separate artist tag.

So in your example:

Artist: Dire Straits, Sting
Album Artist: Dire Straits
Track Title - as per yours

Dave
Wow, why haven't i thought of this before!!
Best of both worlds!

Thanks
i've just registered and have a somewhat similar problem and don't want to create a extra topic.

--------

I've a large amount of chart samplers ripped with dbpoweramp and are now in fine tagging process with mp3tag.

I don't want to modify the titel because 90% are tagged correctly but how to handle now the feat artist when Album Artist is Various Artists.

If possible i want to have both as an searchable artist.

On the enclosed screen you could see what i mean, some where separated with & other with \\.

I've started with Bubble but changed to mimim because of the better filter options but i'm still at the very beginning.

I don't see any problem with your tagging. You can browse for the multiple tagged artists by using the All Artists index. Is this what you mean by "searchable"?

I take Line2 as an example.

The Artists are Joana Zimmer and David Bisbal - I want if possible 2 entries as follow

Joana Zimmer - "titel"
David Bisbal - "titel"

I've seen something like that with media monkey so that the duets or multi artists titel are listed separately under each artists.

I hope that this make more sense.

Thanks in advance

You need to change 'Joana Zimmer & David Bisbal' to 'Joana Zimmer\\David Bisbal'. This creates two separate Artist tags. With this tagging, the 'All Artists' index will show these songs under both Joana Zimmer and David Bisbal.
