If you don't use the Grouping tag for anything else, instead of "new", you can tag with year/month (e.g. 2015-11) or year/quarter of purchase. That way you can select most recently purchased, or delve into your history, and don't have to go back and change the tag later. I use the "Comment" tag for this since I use the Grouing tag for box sets.

Yes, thank you, that's an even better solution. I'll opt for 2015-4 to start with Heart
Hi, I think this thread answers exactly the question I was asking myself, unfortunately I don't understand some parts of the answer.

When you speak of a 'collection' tag, Iwas assuming there is such a tag in ID3V2 for my mp3 or a similar comment in Vobis, but that's not the case. Is this not what you mean by tag? Am I confusing a 'frame' and a 'tag'? And if yes what is the definition of tag?

Is it correct to assume I could pick the frame TIT1 (mp3) or the CONTENTGROUP Vobis comment and write my 'wife', 'son' audiobook' values for my different collections there? Does anyone have a better suggestion?

When people speak of a tag, they usually mean a frame in ID3v2 or a Vorbis comment.

Yes, you can do this and the values 'wife', 'son', etc. will appear in an index menu named ContentGroup (if you have added this to indexTags). If you want them to appear under a different index menu name, you can use aliasTags to change ContentGroup to something else.

Another option (if your tagging program supports it) is to tag the values 'wife', 'son', etc. with a custom tag name such as Collection. In ID3v2, the Collection tag will be a TXXX frame and in Vorbis it will be a COLLECTION comment. In this case, there is no need to set aliasTags.
Ah, great, thanks I didn't know one could add "one's own" custom tags. That will make the tagging somewhat non-standard though and probably wouldn't be supported by some Servers...?

I'll try this though!

Otherwise I was also thinking of setting up multiple instances of Minimserver and SynologyMediaserver to separate my libraries and that's also suboptimal.

Vorbis comments can have any name and TXXX frames can also have any name, so this approach is entirely standard.

If you have one NAS, you could only set up one instance of each server.
