Dear all
I am a new user of MinimServer and I am slowly learning the basics. I have one simple query. I have noted that albums with (Disc n) in the album title tag are automatically combined under one album. I understand that there is some possibility of having the albums to be shown separately. As I have various classical music albums which require the various discs to be kept separate (otherwise the different movements from various pieces will overlap), I would appreciate any hint/help/suggestions you might have to achieve that result.
Apologies for the very dumb question but I could not figure out a solution from reading the online help and the various some discussions among the members of the forum.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks.
Giorgio

Tagging "album name", Disc n does the trick with me.

Does it mean that I would need to do it for each album with multiple discs? If so, is there any "global" solution which allows all albums with multiple discs to be shown individually?
Thanks

Can you explain in more detail what is the problem if the discs are combined? A specific example would be helpful.

Hi Simon
thanks for asking. When I rip my CDs I set the tracks in the following format XX. Title, where XX denotes the track number in the individual CD. When I have multiple discs I unfortunately find that the track in the consolidated folder become as follows:
track 01 Disc 1
track 01 Disc 2
...
track 02 Disc 1
track 02 Disc 2
etc.
As you might appreciate it, the order above would simply scramble the normal flow of movements for classical pieces (it would not be too important for most of Jazz/Rock albums as the other generally does not matter - with obvious exceptions).
I think that by keeping the discs separated the problem mentioned above would not arise. However, I was wondering if I could avoid tagging individual discs since there are many instances of the kind above in my library and therefore would not be very practical.
Any suggestions (with a practical example if possible - as I am very new to using Miminserver) would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks again!
Giorgio

This shouldn't be happening if the Tracknumber and Discnumber tags are set correctly. MinimServer should produce a combined album listing like the following:
>> Disc 1
track 01 Disc 1
track 02 Disc 1
...
>> Disc 2
track 01 Disc 2
track 02 Disc 2
...
Some questions:
1) Which UPnP control point are you using to browse your library?
2) What format(s) are your files? (e.g., FLAC, WAV, MP3, ALAC, MP4/M4A)
3) Do your files have Tracknumber tags?
4) Do your files have Discnumber tags?
5) Which ripping program do you use?
The answers to these questions will enable me to make some specific recommendations for how to get what you want.

Hi Simon
with regards to your questions above:
1) I currently use Lighting DS for iOS (to operate an Auralic Aires).
2) Files have multiple formats: they are all lossless ALAC, FLAC and DFF some of those ALAC and FLAC being 96/24 192/24. However the majority is 16/44-48
3) Yes the tracks are indexed individually and they have a track tag
4) I believe most of the multiple CDs have no disc number tag
5) I rip my CDs using dbPoweramp.
Thanks again in advance for your kind help!

Thanks for this information.
For a multidisc album, if the discs are tagged as:
Album Name [Disc 1]
Album Name [Disc 2]
then MinimServer will apply the correct Discnumber values to the tracks. When you view the multidisc album in a control point, you should see the discs and tracks ordered correctly as I described in my previous post.
If you're not seeing this, the problem is caused by Lightning DS reordering the list of tracks sent by MinimServer. Can you try a different control point such as Linn Kinsky or BubbleUPnP to verify that the album is displayed correctly?
If Lightning DS is reordering the list of tracks by track number only (not taking the disc number into account), this would explain the problem you are having. There have been other reported problems with Lightning DS changing the order of lists sent by MinimServer.
The best solution would be for Lightning DS not to change the order of lists sent by the server. If the Auralic developers aren't willing to make this change (or provide it as an option), you would either need to use a different control point or change your album tags as discussed previously. The album tag change could be automated by using the regular expression feature of Mp3tag.

Hi Simon
thanks again. I tried your suggestion and checked the ordering with Kinsky on my iPad. Indeed, as you anticipated, the albums display correctly. Hence, it is clearly an issue with Lightning DS. I will get in touch with them at some point to report the issue (in case they care resolving the issue). I can try to deal with the issue myself using Mp3tag.

Hello again
I have discussed the bug with the guys at Auralic and been told that it should be taken care of with the next version of DS Lightning.
One related query:
Following your suggestions (and the ones of other members of the forum) I have changed slightly the way I tag multiple discs and instead of using the format Album Name (Disc n) I changed it into Album Name, Disc n. Now I can see all of the separate discs. However, they do not show up progressively in Lightning DS.
For example, when I sort/display by genre I would see
Album A
Album B, Disc 1
Album C
Album D
Album B, Disc 2
I have noted that this is due to the second set of names (other than Artist) which are tagged. Is there any way to correct for this or, if not, how could I prevent albums to be indexed using also additional artist names? I do not normally use or report tags other than the main artist of the album. However, perhaps using dbPoweramp those names (including composer etc.) are included automatically. Any suggestions on how to deal with the issue above?
Thanks in advance.
