Request for Internet Radio streams...
Simon.

Have you thought about adding Radio Streams into MinimServer?

One of the nice things about Sonos/JRiver etc is the ability to flip between a users own files and services such as Pandora and Rhapsody (for more casual listening) *within* the player...

Any chance adding these to MinimServer?

Cheers

You can add a standard HTTP internet radio stream to a .m3u playlist if you know its URL. I don't know what would be involved in connecting to services such as Pandora and Rhapsody.

What do you mean by flipping within the player? If it's within the player, how is the server involved?

RE: Request for Internet Radio streams...
By "flipping within the player", I mean being able to scroll between your own library and the internet stations without going out of the "control" program.. but your right I guess this is a problem with the control point (I'm using PlugPlayer) not MinimServer per say.. Smile

I think I'll try JRiver purely as as a control point.. But I don't want all the other crap in JRiver! I wish it was just possibe to set JRiver up as a simple control point so it's GUI looks like plug player. I don;t want it as the "server"!! LOL! I want MinimServer!

Is everyone following what I am on about here? LOL!

That's good to know, but finding the URL is difficult. My favorite radio stations now all use Flash player thingies that hide the URL and the stations are not on the lists I have found on the internet.

This is a player not a server issue, but just to give an example of how it is convenient for me: The Simaudio MiND app includes a music controller than plays whatever the server provides (especially good now that Simon has fixed the ohNet bugs that interfered with the MiND app Smile ) and an internet radio feature. I noticed that the app puts the internet radio station you are listening to into a playlist, which I thought a bit strange but from Simon's comment I now understand why. During the summer one of my favorite shows is knocked out of the schedule on the main channel but is still carried on the HD2 stream. So I fire up the MiND and listen to my own music files until 8:00, then easily switch over to the HD2 stream to get my program. Very nice since my FM tuner is old and not HDs-capable!

You can do this with MinimServer and any UPnP control point by creating a .m3u playlist with an internet radio station URL as a playlist entry. For example, to play BBC Radio 3, the entry would be:

#EXTINF:-1,BBC Radio 3
http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio/listen/live/r3_aaclca.pls

To select the radio station, you would navigate to

nn playlists > playlist name > station name

and then play the radio station as if you were playing a local server file. You can find a list of European station URLs on this page.

You can't use JRiver as a UPnP control point in the normal sense. If you try to do this, it will read the complete library from the UPnP server and from then on you will get the native JRiver experience.

Note: The current release of MinimServer doesn't support this. It will be supported in the next release. See this post.

This could be because the radio station URL is a URL to a playlist containing HTTP streams rather than a URL directly to a HTTP stream. Many stations do this to provide multiple streams with failover if one stream should stop working. MinimServer doesn't look inside these playlists, but sends them directly to the control point.

For example, the URL for BBC Radio 3 is:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio/listen/live/r3_aaclca.pls

This URL points to a PLS-style playlist containing:

[playlist]
NumberOfEntries=2
File1=http://bbcmedia.ic.llnwd.net/stream/bbcmedia_lc1_radio3_p?s=1375776485&e=1375790885&h=8f2e72c19fc2daa8f8077be3f4cb15e6
Title1=No Title
Length1=-1
File2=http://bbcmedia.ic.llnwd.net/stream/bbcmedia_lc1_radio3_q?s=1375776485&e=1375790885&h=5d93ec6091b3755c1e063d9338665bb7
Title2=No Title
Length2=-1

MinimServer sends the .pls URL to the control point, which should send it to the renderer. It could be that the MOON control point is opening the .pls file and showing you the individual HTTP streams.
