Thank you, Simon. This would fully meet my needs, and is, as you say, a familiar and reasonable limitation.

I don't know how representative my use case is. I'd hope that others would see the advantages of having and element of redundancy in their music storage subsystem, and also of keeping separate installations as consistent and predictable as possible (which is very easy with MinimServer - one of its many benefits).
