Yes, it was a response to your post, which I now see I misread. You were discussing the binaural stream; I was referring to the lossless FLAC stream. Sorry for the confusion

I was able to get something close to working before the stream stopped just before 10 pm. The stream was being captured correctly as a fragmented MP4 stream containing AAC audio data. My Linn DS wouldn't play this stream (perhaps because of zero length in the MP4 metadata?) but I was able to play it on the Melco USB-DAC renderer. I didn't have time to try it with WAV transcoding.

When is the next binaural broadcast?

#EXTINF:-1,[*R3DASH;flac] BBC Radio 3 lossless

The file should also have #EXTM3U as the first line. This is required for all MinimStreamer radio playlists.

Stupid me! Thanks Simon. Works perfectly now. Next step is to get artwork shown but hopefully I do that correctly. I take it there is no way to play the Prom recordings on the BBC website in lossless?

Much appreciated.

RE: BBC R3 Lossless Stream
As far as I know, only the live stream is available as lossless.

No. Only the live steam is lossless (48kHz/16 bit FLAC when extracted from the DASH 'wrapper'). It's still experimental, so we can hope that streams and recordings of this quality will one day be as widely available as the HLS/AAC streams are now.

That is excellent news.

The next live binaural taster broadcast is Prom 29 on the 6th at 6pm - the relevant webpage gets updated with the info for the next broadcast soon after the previous broadcast ends.

RE: BBC R3 Lossless Stream
Version 0.7.0.2 of the protoype is now available. This has a number of bug fixes and improvements. If you are using 0.7 or 0.7.0.1, please update to 0.7.0.2 by doing the following:

1) In the Packages tab of the Properties window, type the following in the 'Other package' field: minimstreamer-0.7.0.2

2) Click Install and follow the prompts to install the package

3) When installation is complete, click Relaunch

If you haven't yet installed the prototoype, see the full installation instructions in post 12.

The new 0.7.0.2 version of the prototype might work for this but there is no way I can confirm this before the 6th. Sad

The binaural stream is in MP4/AAC fragmented format. Many players (including the Linn DS) are unable to play a fragmented stream. A workaround is to transcode the stream to WAV or WAV24.

RE: BBC R3 Lossless Stream
Just PM'd you (before reading your last 2 posts).

Fair enough - it's unfortunate the BBC aren't providing the binaural stream for every Prom. I've found an unofficial list of all of the binaural broadcasts (seems accurate, so far):

Prom 1 – 14 July, 7.30pm
Prom 6 – 18 July, 7.00pm
Prom 7 – 19 July, 7.30pm
Prom 12 – 23 July, 6.00pm
Prom 13 – 24 July, 7.30pm
Prom 21 – 30 July, 7.00pm
Prom 23 – 1 August, 7.30pm
Prom 29 – 6 August, 6.00pm
Prom 37 – 13 August, 6.00pm
Prom 38 – 13 August, 9.45pm
Prom 43 – 17 August, 6.30pm
Prom 44 – 17 August, 10.15pm
Prom 47 – 20 August, 1.00pm
Prom 54 – 25 August, 6.30pm
Prom 60 – 29 August, 7.30pm
Prom 69 – 4 September, 7.30pm
Prom 71 – 6 September, 7.00pm
Prom 72 – 7 September, 6.30pm
Prom 73 – 7 September, 9.30pm
Prom 75 – 9 September, 7.15pm

The binaural stream is in MP4/AAC fragmented format. Many players (including the Linn DS) are unable to play a fragmented stream. A workaround is to transcode the stream to WAV or WAV24.
I tested the Proms binaural stream yesterday with the 0.7.0.2 prototype, using the players I tested the last time (all are able to play the BBC's R3 FLAC stream with the prototype without needing to transcode to WAV):
Pioneer N-50*
Denon DNP-F109*
Google Chromecast Audio (UPnP to Google Cast bridge provided by the BubbleUPnP Android app)
Samsung F6400 TV
openhome.org's OpenHome Player (running on a Raspberry Pi 2, under Raspbian Jessie Lite)
foobar2000 with the UPnP renderer provided by the foo_upnp plugin (on a Windows 10 laptop)

* As with the FLAC stream, these streamers required the stream's URL to have a .aac suffix, in order for them to recognise it as playable - so similarly sorted out by adding the aac audio type as the additional audio info in the playlist entry.

Only the Chromecast Audio and the Samsung F6400 TV were able to play the fragmented AAC format, but were all able to do so when it was transcoded to WAV.
