Quick question re Artist format to renderer

Hi Simon,

When I play an audio file that has multiple ARTIST tags my renderer only displays the last tag value. For example (from Mp3tag):



Shows as artist Jim Pepper on the now playing screen.

Does Minimserver by default combine all ARTIST tags together before sending the value to the renderer? The Artist.displayFormat={$artist$orchestra$conductor} value in the properties seems to imply that it does (comma separated).

Yes, MinimServer does combine all artist values by default. You can disable this by putting display.multiTag in the tagCustom property and you might have done this without realising the effect it will have.

Hmmm, haven't changed any of the values from the defaults, but will double check the settings. It's also possible that the renderer doesn't like commas so I might try hard coding the artist list in one tag and see if the first three names are still dropped.

Funnily enough when I change the ARTIST tag in this example to "Bob Moses, Keith Jarrett, Steve Swallow, Jim Pepper" the renderer displays the full artist string. Weird. Isn't this the same value that it should be receiving from the server with all ARTIST tags combined?

Do any other tracks from the same album have an ALBUMARTIST tag?

No ALBUMARTIST tags on this album

In this case, I can't think of any reason why the separate ARTIST tags would not be combined into a single comma-separated value for sending to the control point.

Another possibility is that the player is reading the ARTIST tags directly from the streamed file rather than using the artist value sent to the control point by MinimServer. Can you try a different control point such as Linn Kinsky or BubbleUPnP to check this?

That must be it, when I view the same track in BubbleUPnP it shows the Artist as the full string of tags together. Interesting!
