Wireless system that works with MinimServer? (SONOS alternative)

RE: Wireless system that works with MinimServer? (SONOS alternative)
This URL:

http://static.wamu.org/streams/live/2/live.m3u

has a nonstandard MIME type and this is why MinimStreamer can't find the stream URL that it contains. I will add a workaround for this in the next version of MinimStreamer. For now, you can play this stream by putting the following URL in your playlist:

http://wamu-2.streamguys.com:80

Excellent. Will the workaround also account for other commonly used 'playlist' type internet radio links, eg, .pls?

This change is available now in MinimStreamer 0.6.2.

A similar change for .pls URLs was already added to MinimStreamer 0.6 last December.

Thanks Simon. Didn't realise .pls radio URLs were already supported - the few .pls links I remember having to manually extract the direct URLs from was admittedly a while back!

To clarify, .pls and .m3u URLs for radio stations have both been supported for some time. The issue was that some radio stations don't return the standard MIME types for these playlists and this has required some changes to detect the type of playlist in such cases.

I use Minimserver extensively on/for HEOS1 HS2 + 7 HS2 and also on the Denon AVR x4300h receiver (HEOS enabled).
The HS2 series is also HiRes Audio enabled (FLAC24, DSD etc.)

Goal:
-Stream FLAC library to (individual/grouped) speakers

Setup:
-Minimserver on Windows10 + large FLAC library
-HEOS App on iPad

Working:
-HEOS App on iPad which acts as uPNP controller
Browse and choose from Minimserver uPNP
-HEOS speakers as uPNP renderers.
Control the HEOS speakers with the app

Grouping / Multiroom:
- You can also group several HEOS speakers and stream to the group.

Works excellent, only no fast forward/rewind unfortunately on FLAC files (yet).

RE: Wireless system that works with MinimServer? (SONOS alternative)
I got a pair of chromecasts and have been experimenting with this setup.

It seems that when it works, I don't notice any problems. The two speakers stay synchronized, for example.

There are some things that are annoying. For example, it takes quite a long time to initiate playback of a new track. I also suspect I haven't figured out how to use the software properly. It seems awkward to have to go explicitly clear the playlist all the time.

But the real problem seems to be instability of BubbleUPNP Server. It seems to crash all the time. I can't tell if there's something specific that stimulates crashes, but this may make the setup unusable. I routinely try to use it and Linn or BubbleUPNP hang. Sometimes I eventually get a message like "unable to add track to DS" or a "timeout" message of some kind. And it seems like the solution is to restart BubbleUPNP Server.

Does anybody know how Denon HEOS or Bluesound work?

Chromecast Audio works with a helper program, BubbleUPnP Server. Group play is also possible with Chromecast. The trick is to create a chromecast group using Google Home, and then BubbleUPnP Server will treat the group as a device that can be enumerated as a UPnP or Openhome renderer.
