Unable to deactivate Twonky on Melco N1A

RE: Unable to deactivate Twonky on Melco N1A
Update, Restarted Melco.
Twonky still running......

But at least it can be kept quiet by going to Advanced and setting rescan interval to zero.

RE: Unable to deactivate Twonky on Melco N1A
A number of users have reported not being able to edit the minimserver.options file. I have never seen this problem myself and I don't know what could cause it. I will try a new installation from scratch to see if I can make it happen for me.

There shouldn't be any issues with line feed or carriage return. I had originally suspected this but further tests have shown that it doesn't cause any problems.

RE: Unable to deactivate Twonky on Melco N1A
Hi Simon,

I experience the same as adm95 on my Melco N1. Checked minimserver.options (17 bytes), Minimserver version (0.8.4.5 / MinimServer 0.8.4 update 97) and restarted Minimerver while the Melco was running (Twonkey being active at that moment) all as already concluded by you without stopping Twonky.

The reason I try to stop Twony is my experience of files to start playing after some 10-20 seconds and skipping the first part. My relatively large library (38000 files) might be causing resource problems and by stopping Twonky the CPU/Memory usage will be decreased hopefully this problem will be avoided.

Will you please be so kind to notify/address me also when you created a new build that always stops Twonky, I have no problem to be a beta tester for you.

Btw if I can mention a general feature improvement: Rescan a single library instead of the whole Minimserver system. This feature would improve speed of a rescan considerably.

Thanks for your effords, with kind regards,
Jan

RE: Unable to deactivate Twonky on Melco N1A
After some investigation, we found that the OP's problem with Twonky not being stopped was related to using a switch that caused a delay in assigning the correct DHCP IP address. If you watch the front panel when starting the N1, does the correct IP address appear immediately or do you get a 169.254.x.x address for a few seconds first?

What do you mean by rescanning a single library? Are you referring to a content directory or an individual folder within a content directory? Can you give an example?

RE: Unable to deactivate Twonky on Melco N1A
Hi Simon,

I've a hard coded IP address, I'm not fond of DHCP, and that's probably the reason for the correct IP address to appear immediately after the "checking system" message directly after power on.

Just a suggestion would a "sleep 300" just before killing the Twonky process do the timing trick. I realise 300 is arbitrary.

It would be nice if, using mimimwatch, I could select a folder/directory and have minimserver only (re)scan that selected folder/directory instead of the whole tree.

Again thanks and kind regards,
Jan

RE: Unable to deactivate Twonky on Melco N1A
There should be no issue when using a hard-coded IP address. I use this and Twonky is always stopped.

What do you see in the share/MinimServer/minimerver-init.log file after powering on the N1?

I agree that it would be nice to be able to select any folder and rescan it (and its subfolders, if any) without rescanning the rest of the library.

RE: Unable to deactivate Twonky on Melco N1A
Hi Simon,

I've "startupScan" set to true. Would "false" be of any help, the startup would speed up for sure.

Kind regards,
Jan

RE: Unable to deactivate Twonky on Melco N1A
I don't know why your minimserver-init.log file is empty. This should never happen and might be related to your issue with Twonky not being stopped.

Have you tried copying the minimserver-init.log file to a PC or Mac? Sometimes a file can show as 0 bytes even though it is not empty.

It is your choice how you set startupScan. It won't make any difference to the other issues.

Hi Simon,

I powered off/on my Melco, re-enabled the share but the log filestill has the size of 0 bytes, also after copying this file to my PC.

To show you the share/directory:
Q:\MinimServer>dir

The command completed successfully.

Q:\MinimServer>

It's up to you but if wished for I delete the Minimserver installation at my Melco N1 and re-install it. Maybe a clear install will solve the problem.

Kind regards,
Jan de Ruijter
