Problems with latest version of MinimServer/Minimstreamer

Problems with latest version of MinimServer/Minimstreamer
I recently completely (and thoroughly) uninstalled my old version MinimServer and then installed the latest Windows version (64-bit). The installed packages include MinimServer-0.8-update-71 and MinimStreamer-05.18. However, I now cannot connect to any BBC Radio station with foobar 2000 using the old locations and always get the error message: 'The following error(s) occurred during loading of the location(s): Not Found (404)'

Example URL

e.g. http://192.168.1.???:9790/minimstreamer/*/R?

I've checked that the LAN IP address is correct and that there isn't a problem with the Firewall. Also I have the latest version of 64-bit version of JAVA for windows.

Can anyone suggest a way forward. MinimStreamer and foobar 2000 worked perfectly before the update.

Thanks

Ian K.

Are you pasting the URL into File > Open Location in foobar2000 or are you selecting the stream from the foo_upnp UPnP Browser Selection tab? Please try doing the latter as this will verify whether your MinimServer setup is correct.

Thanks for your response

I installed foo_upnp. However after considerable effort I still cannot find a way to play any BBC Radio streams with foobar using the plugin and MinimStreamer. Perhaps you could advise me for the correct set up for the UPnP Browser and UPnP Controller which will allow me the equivalent functionality as I used to get by simply pasting http://192.168.1.???:9790/minimstreamer/*/R? into foobar's 'Add Location'. All I want to do is to play the relevant BBC Radio streams using foobar. Nothing more fancy than that!

No special setup is needed in foobar2000 except for installing foo_upnp. You need to carefully follow all the instructions on this page. For steps 8 and 9, select View > UPnP Browser in the foobar2000 main window, then select MinimServer from the list of UPnP servers, then select '1 playlist', then select BBC Radio, then use the UPnP Browser Selection tab to double-click the station you want to play. You should ignore step 10 because this isn't needed when using foobar2000.

Hi Simon

Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately I'm still having problems...

I've followed all the steps in the http://minimstreamer.com/bbcradio.html using the m3u template. However when I go View> UPnP Browser no UPnP servers are showing and Search and ? are greyed out. Please note the Content Directory in MinimServer points to the BBC Radio folder containing the BBC Radio.m3u file which was saved as plain text. Finally are the URLS in the m3u file supposed to be (for example) http://a.files.bbci.co.uk/media/live/man...three.m3u8 etc rather than http://'My LAN IP':9790/minimstreamer/*/R3 ?

Slightly baffled!

Ian K

I don't know what you mean about Search and ? being greyed out. I am not seeing either of these when I select View> UPnP Browser.

It sounds like MinimServer isn't running or is blocked by a firewall. Another possibility is a network discovery problem. Does the minim icon show green? What do you see in the MinimServer log window if you select 'Show log' from the minim icon?

Are you running MinimServer on the same Windows PC as foobar2000 or are these running on different machines?

Is the Windows PC (or PCs) connected to the network by a wireless or wired connection?

Quote:Please note the Content Directory in MinimServer points to the BBC Radio folder containing the BBC Radio.m3u file which was saved as plain text.

This is correct.

Yes, these URLs must point to the BBC server.

Hi Simon

Thanks for your comments/suggestions.

Re UPnP Browser. See uploaded JPG re greyed out i.e. unresponsive Search & ?

I'm running MinimServer and foobar 2000 on the same machine. Normally I run the network though a wired rather than a wireless connection.

The Minim icon turns green and the Log (see JPG) seems to show that it's running OK. I also have uploaded JPGs of the Server and System Properties as well as the Installed Packages.

I've tried snoozing the ZoneAlarm firewall but this doesn't address the problem.

I hope this information helps. As I mentioned before I had no problems until very recently.

Kind regards

Ian

Thanks for these screenshots. The Search and ? buttons are also greyed out for me but I see MinimServer in the llist of UPnP servers. I had never noticed the Search and ? buttons before.

The other screenshots look fine and it seems likely that this is a firewall or antivirus issue. As a test, please try completely disabling the Windows firewall and the ZoneAlarm firewall (and any other antivirus program if you have one running), then exit MinimServer and relaunch it from the desktop icon. It is important to relaunch MinimServer after you have disabled the firewall.

RE: Problems with latest version of MinimServer/Minimstreamer
Hi Simon

I'm sorry for the delay in getting back to you. There's good news and bad news!

First, I took your advice and snoozed ZoneAlarm, disabled the router's firewall and enabled DMZ. At this stage I was able to get MinimStreamer to work simply using 'New Location' with foobar 2000. However, I still wasn't able to see any server in the UPnP Browser! I then disabled DMZ. re-enabled the router firewall and ZoneAlarm and was still able to use 'Add New Location' to stream all the BBC channels as before using http://192.168.1.*:9790/minimstreamer/*/R?

In short, a positive result. However it's bugging me why I can't use the UPnP plugin (Browser and Controller) in conjunction with the BBC Radio.m3u file. Strange! If you have any further ideas please let me know!

Thanks for your help.

Ian

This is likely to be a UPnP discovery issue with your network or router. UPnP discovery uses UDP multicast messaging to port 1900 and your router (or switch if you have one) might be blocking this. Another possibility is that an IGMP snooping setting in your router or switch is conflicting with UPnP discovery and causing the problem. If there is a setting in your router (and/or switch) to disable IGMP snooping, it would be worth trying this.
