The next step in diagnosing the problem is to capture a network trace. For this, you need to have MinimWatch running on another computer and do the following:

1) From the minim icon, select 'Show log'
2) In the log window, set the logging level to Debug
3) From the minim icon, select 'Properties' and set the ohnet.debug property on the System tab to All-Timer
4) Run MinimServer for long enough to show it appearing and disappearing in the NAIM app a few times.
5) Note the exact times when MinimServer appears and disappears
6) Using Synology File Station, navigate to the MinimServer/appData folder and copy the minimserver.log file to another computer
7) From the minim icon, select 'Show log' and set the logging level back to Info
8) Zip the minimserver.log file that you copied in step 6 and attach it to a post here, with details of the times that you noted in step 5

I will look at the minimserver.log file and let you know what I find.

Open NAIM app: 9:59:00
Minimserver appear: 9:59:59
Close NAIM app: 10:05:30 (Minimserver still visible)
Open NAIM app: 10:05:56 (No minimserver visible)
Appear minimserver: 10:06:49
disappear minimserver: 10:12:49
Appeaar minimserver: 10:13:49
Close NAIM app: 10:21:04
Open NAIM app: 10:21:15 (Minimserver still visible)

It seems that it mostly occurs when closing the app and opening. However when I am in the folder view of the NAIM app and I want to choose another song it is not always possible, going back in the NAIM app to UPnP server shows then NO minimserver. So it does also disappear when playing music. Music keeps on playing however..

logging on the way....

1,4 Mb is too large for upload it says.....

Thanks very much! There are a lot of network messages in this log and it will take me a little time to analyse it fully.

What are the following IP addresses?

192.168.0.8 (looks like the iPad)
192.168.0.6
192.168.0.2
192.168.0.10 (looks like the primary LAN interface on the NAS)
192.168.40.6 (looks like an additional VPN interface on the NAS)

192.168.0.8 (looks like the iPad) --> Samsung galaxy S4
192.168.0.6 --> NAIM NDX Streamer
192.168.0.2 --> Marantz AV8801
192.168.0.10 (looks like the primary LAN interface on the NAS) --> NAS
192.168.40.6 (looks like an additional VPN interface on the NAS) --> VPN connection from other NAS to mine. I run only VPN client and I NEED this.

Would an iPad be better with the NAIM app instead of android? Because I am fully on apple router, bridges...

For testing purposes I can stop all the VPN traffic of course, that is no problem. I need this connection for nightly backups.

I had assumed it was an iPad because this is what most people seem to use to run the NAIM app. I don't think changing to an iPad would make any difference.

The log contains a few things that don't look right to me. It might take me a few days to work through this in detail.

It would be helpful for me if you could produce another log with ohNet debug information enabled from the time you start MinimServer. Please do the following:

1) From the minim icon, select 'Show log'
2) In the log window, set the logging level to Debug
3) From the minim icon, select 'Properties' and set the ohnet.debug property on the System tab to All-Timer
4) Power off the Galaxy S4
5) Disable the VPN client on the Synology
6) In the Synology Package Center, stop MinimServer and then restart it
7) Power on the Galaxy S4 and start the NAIM app
8) Run MinimServer for about 20 minutes
9) Using Synology File Station, navigate to the MinimServer/appData folder and copy the minimserver.log file to another computer
10) From the minim icon, select 'Show log' and set the logging level back to Info
11) Enable the VPN client on the Synology
12) Zip the minimserver.log file that you copied in step 9 and upload it to my FTP server

Many thanks!

Done! Good Luck!

Seems indeed that VPN (Client and server) is a problem....No workaround?

I have looked through both logs and it appears that multicast messages are getting through OK.

When you captured the second log without VPN active, did you get the problem with MinimServer disappearing and/or not appearing?

I recommend that you change the MinimServer configuration to eliminate the VPN issue. On the System tab, set ohnet.subnet to 192.168.0.0, then stop and restart MinimServer from the DSM Package Center. Does this help?

I also noticed that there is a lot of UDP messaging activity at certain times. This might cause some UDP messages to get lost, which might explain the problems you are seeing.

I will capture some logs myself to see if the activity on my network is similar to or different from yours.

Setting the ohnet.subnet to 192.168.0.0 solved the issue! I am running the VPN client and the Minimserver together. The NAIM app picks up the minimserver perfectly now! Many thanks!
