No tray icon

I just switched to Linux Neon (KDE based on Ubuntu 18.04.1) and installed Minimsever 0.8.5.2 update 128 successfully, but I don't get an icon in the system tray as I did previously, when using Linux Mint KDE (Ubuntu 14.04). Clicking the desktop icon shows the default icon in the tray but after a few seconds it disappears. Server is running as noted at localhost:9790.
I've tried using startc, startd, starti, all to no avail.
Minus the icon, no real way to configure as the web API doesn't seem to allow me to add more than one content directory.
Minim logs don't show any problems.
Any help appreciated.

If startc is not working, the problem is not with the icon but something else that is causing MinimServer to exit unexpectedly.

What output (if any) do you get when you run startc --debug in a terminal window?

I do appreciate your help. I'll make a contribution, whether we solve or not. Lots of output. Again, though, doesn't seem to exit. I can view in browser, just no icon.

Apologies for misunderstanding your previous post. By "no avail", I thought you meant that startc etc. were not working. I now realise you meant there was no icon shown. This debug output shows that everything is working OK with no attempt to create the icon (as should be the case with startc).

You have a number of options. To get the icon working, try installing TopIcons Plus as decribed in step 1 of this section. This fixes tray icon problems on Ubuntu and might work on Neon as well. Please let me know whether this solves the problem.

As a workaround to get you going without a tray icon, you can use the command interface (see this section). The best way to do this is to start MinimServer using minimserver/bin/startd, then start MinimWatch using minimwatch/bin/startc.

I'll try that and advise. I did manage to manually edit the config file add additional content dir's, but will also try with the minimwatch. Next task will be to get a CP to view. No luck on that so far. Should have saved the files from previuos install since had everything working

Please check the minimwatch/data directory for crash logs and/or hserr files. If you find anything relevant, please post it here. You could also try minimwatch/bin/startc --debug to see if any useful information shows up there.

Manually editing the minimserver.config file or copying this file from one installation to another is strongly discouraged and can cause problems. MinimWatch commands are always safe.

Wondering if the minimwatch error relates to unable to see minimserver from any CP? Everything is on one computer, not trying to access from any other devices, port 1900 shows open. I've tried using eezupnp, kodi, banshee, rhthymbox.

This looks like the cause of the problems (maybe not the icon problem). Could this be a privilege issue? You should be installing and running MinimServer and MinimWatch as a regular user, not root.
